Letter from the President

Dear Friends ,

We are now well into a new year , a year that has already been marked by dramatic changes in our national government and our culture . Change can be something we welcome and embrace , or something we fear and find unsettling . But amidst all the changes that we experience in society and culture throughout our lives , there is one reality that we can count on never changing — and that is God ! His love and mercy are everlasting , and his Truth remains a perennial anchor for us in life ’ s journey .
Here at the PFIC , we form our students in the deep tradition of Scripture and the Church ’ s teaching from the unique theological perspective of St . Thomas Aquinas so that they might go forth as priests , religious , and lay evangelists to bring good news to those who feel adrift amidst all the competing ideologies of our day . The formation they receive here enables them to share with others the anchor of God ’ s Truth in a way that is both attractive and convincing !
In this issue of Faith & Reason , we are highlighting another exciting way that our faculty at the PFIC are seeking to draw others to the Truth . One of our lay professors , Dr . Jem Sullivan , recently produced an EWTN special broadcast , The Beauty of Faith , which focuses on the role of art and beauty in communicating the faith . Several of our Dominican friars participated as commentators in this broadcast , as well . This project is just one of the many ways that our faculty are seeking to bring aspects of the formation they provide our students in the classroom out to a much wider audience .
Yes , exciting things are happening here — and our faculty and students offer great hope for the future of the work of evangelization in our country . But the success of our efforts depends on God ’ s grace as well as your continued support ! We depend on your prayers and financial assistance to carry out our mission . Your investment in the PFIC ultimately plays an important role in providing the anchor of faith to the many in our nation who are adrift at this time .
As the Letter to the Hebrews ( 13:8 ) reminds us , “ Jesus Christ is the same yesterday , today , and forever .” Yes , we are the ones who go out and proclaim the beauty and wonder of this Truth through our teaching , preaching , and media work . But you also are vital participants in this great mission through your support of our efforts . May the Lord bless you all in a special way in this new year !
