treated as ‘has beens’ and ‘second-rate’ by the time they reach
the age of 30. Is this really true or
accepted because we are constantly looking for the next ‘blueeyed boy’, super star and model,
or the next athlete who will break
an Olympic record or score the
winning goal? It seems to me
that looking at success related
to age is a worldly concept, and
therefore a distorted prism that
we as Christians should not look
through. Such superficial rejection of a person, simply based
on some imaginary age barrier is
not logical or useful, but it seems
many buy into this deception and
treat people accordingly. Thankfully, God sees us as his ‘Crown
of creation’ and has Kingdom
purposes planned for every day
of our lives.
There are many examples in
the Bible of men and women
who lived through many years of
trials before being ready to bring
God’s plans to fruition. It seems
that it is the journey more than
the destination that matures our
faith. We won’t use examples
from the pre-flood era when God
enabled life-spans reaching over
900 years! So let us start with
Abraham who was 75 when he
began his journey of faith into
Canaan; and although he had a
few blips of doubt along the way,
God granted him at the age of
100 years, a son with Sarah who
was 90! Genesis 17:17-19.
Proverbs 16:31 ESV. ‘Gray hair
is a crown of glory; it is gained in
a righteous life.’
