queen of King Xerxes of Persia.
As queen, her life was safe and
secure. When the king issued
a decree to kill all the Jews,
Esther was not required to utter
a word to her husband on the
issue. In fact, to approach the
King without being summoned
was tantamount to death unless
he extended his golden scepter. Once she learned about
the decree, Esther had a decision to make. Should she get
involved like her uncle Mordecai requested and risk her life or
should she stay silent. Emboldened, she asked her fellow
Jews to pray for her and she
told them, “I will go to the king,
even though it is against the law.
And if I perish, I perish” (Esther
4:14NIV) What a bold decision.
When Esther presented herself to the king, he gave her his
gold scepter, heard her plea and
reversed the decree. Esther’s
involvement in politics saved her
people from certain death.
As her uncle told her, she was
born for such a time as the one
