The Commercial Module’s initial
conclusions identified a capacity shortfall of
approximately 80% to meet forecast demand,
which may have to be met by future technical
enhancements. Work to define the new use
cases and market opportunities will be
progressed within and outside DVB.
INITIATIVE. Satellite operators SES and
Eutelsat, two of the leading players in the
global video distribution market, took the
opportunity of IBC to unveil an industry-wide
initiative to develop and promote nextgeneration video technologies, standards and
formats, focusing initially on the reception of
satellite services on any screen and on
converged broadcast-broadband technologies.
