6. WHAT IS AN ADJUSTED SCORE?

- The EGF system uses an ADJUSTED SCORE methodology when entering gross scores into the system, whereby, players should ALWAYS adjust any very high gross score on a particular hole before calculating the overall gross score and entering it into the system.

- This is known as Equitable Stroke Control (ESC) – all scores for handicap purposes, including Tournament Scores, are subject to the application of ESC. This mandatory procedure reduces high hole scores for handicap purposes in order to make handicaps more representative of a players potential ability.

- The maximum gross score that you are allowed to use on each hole to calculate your total ADJUSTED gross score for any round is equal to a ‘Nett Double Bogey’.

- In other words, the highest gross score a person can enter is a score that is equal to one stroke above whatever score would give you one Stableford point on that hole.

Example:

You have scored a 9 on a Par 4 where you have a stroke = Net 8.

If you had scored a 6 with a net 5 you would still receive 1 point in Stableford

Therefore on this hole your adjusted score is a 7 (as opposed to the 9 you actually scored) because this is the lowest score on that hole which is equal to zero Stableford points.

- For simplicity, add one shot to whatever score would give you one Stableford point on that hole and that is the maximum score that you must record for each hole.

- If you fail to score or pick up on a hole you must enter a score as explained above.

- There is a lot of confusion on this particular point. Please note this is the way the handicap system requires all golfers to calculate their TOTAL gross score for handicap purposes.
