that once you look at that and hear what the record sounds like , so yeah its done purposefully .
JJ has come out and said ‘ Word Is Bond ’ is a really cathartic record for him lyrically and that the new record is not full of party anthems …
Theres no party songs on there .
… Since the birth of his daughter has that mellowed him out and changed the way he comes into songwriting and you guys as a band as you ’ re getting a little bit older ?
It ’ s definitely us getting older is a big thing and yeah I would say like , well I can ’ t really speak on him on how he feels about having his daughter but from him being my best friend and obviously yeah it changes a band you know what I mean he doesn ’ t wanna be singing about the shit he was singing about back in the day . Plus we ’ re all just getting older and ya know that shits getting a little boring and we actually are musicians so you know we just wanted to write a record that we wanted to hear .
Has any of the recent political events crept into the songs at all ?
Nah we don ’ t fuck with politics at all . Being from America and having Trump as a President I ’ ve had to start talking about politics because its even bothered people like me who don ’ t give a fuck . But we ’ ll never be a political band we ’ ll never like talk about that shit and there ’ s too many other bands doing it and I could give a fuck really you know what I mean ? Its like if we
write a song about “ politics suck ” this and that it ’ s not gunna make a difference they ’ re still gunna suck . Not taking away from any bands that do it it is a vital thing in everyones lives , but its not for us .
It doesn ’ t interest you to go down that path ?
I don ’ t even like talking politics like if I was shooting the shit with someone , I got no time for that conversation . Fucking bores me .
Two of you guys are from Australia , two of you are from America , where would you say is the bands home away from home ?
I would say Alex and I , the drummer and myself our home away from home is Melbourne and I would say their ( JJ and Sean ) home away from home is New York . Cause we wrote the record in New York and when I go to Melbourne its like I have a second family there , its great .
Thats cool man . My final question is who needs Deez Nutz more you or the fans ?
I say we do , its our livelihood its what we ’ ve put our whole lives into for the last ten years . I mean the fans are still coming though , but I wouldn ’ t say they necessarily need us though . We definitely need them more .
Deez Nutz new album ‘ Binge & Purgatory ’ is out April 7th worldwide on Century Media Records .
