50 YEARS OF
LEARNING
1964 - 2014

Welcome to the 50th Anniversary
Commemorative Magazine
What better way to celebrate Edinburgh Napier
University’s 50th Anniversary since it opened
its doors as an educational institution at
Merchiston Campus in 1964, than to recognise
the achievements of our alumni over the last
50 years.
The alumni team has learnt so much from our
graduates who participated, from what is was
like being at ‘Napier’ the day the College opened
on 7 September 1964, to the Paternoster lift at
Merchiston, and the great memories that have
been shared about their time as a student – not
forgetting the role that Edinburgh Napier has
played in shaping careers.
A huge thank you goes out to all our alumni who
gave up their time to be interviewed, emailed
and called (and on occasion, photographed!),
without them this publication would not have
been possible.
We hope that you enjoy reading this magazine
as much as we did putting it together.
Please take the time to visit the 50th Anniversary
website (www.napier.ac.uk/50) which charts
the timeline of our history, how you can get
involved, and information on forthcoming events
throughout 2014. We hope to see you during our
50th Anniversary year.
Here’s to the next 50 years!
