A
t the Outlaw Street Car Reunion
IV event, race promoter Tyler Cross-
noe invited Pro Street Motorcycles
to strut their stuff alongside some of
the nation’s best small-tire racers; he’s glad he
did. During Thursday’s test session, Rogemount,
North Carolina’s Rodney Williford unleashed a
6.79-second elapsed time right off the trailer to
kick things off for the no-bars bike crowd. He
then followed it up with a 6.68 at 221 mph blast
that had jaws dropping everywhere. Yes, it was
only a test session, but considering the world
record for the class coming into this event was a
6.70 at 221 mph, Williford was on-track in more
ways than one.
On Friday morning before the first qualifying
session, Williford looked at the prevailing condi-
tions and decided with twice as many grains of
water in the air and twice as much humidity as
the day before, he’d leave the test-run tune-up in
place. “I had to fight the wheelies all the way down
the track yesterday,” Williford said. “I figured if
I left the previous day tune-up in it, that would
soften things up a bit.” He was right; his next pass
was a 6.82 at 220.48, good for the number-one
qualifying position.
During Sunday eliminations, Williford went
through the 24-bike field like a wrecking ball to
win the event, including a 6.76-to-6.77 victory
over his teammate, Ehren Litten, in the semifinals.
When he handed off his time slips in discussing
the race later, Williford added, “Here, this ain’t
bad, is it?”
