Overview
Lake County businesses and residents rely on a transportation system that incorporates elements owned by the state, the county, 52
municipalities, 15 township road districts, the Illinois Tollway, Metra and Pace. Our transportation system is one of the most visible and fundamental
assets of the county.
Lake County’s 2013-2018 Highway Improvement Program totals $569 million for improvements to the county highway system. This level
of infrastructure investment supports more than 18,000 jobs1. In addition to the jobs generated by the program, maintaining and improving the
county’s highway system is essential for a healthy local economy, a good environment and for the efficient movement of goods and people. It’s a
factor in the quality of life in the county.
