Updating the 2020 Lake County Transportation Priority Plan to 2040 The normal 20-year planning horizon for a transportation plan is no longer being met by the Year 2020 Transportation Priority Plan. As mentioned above, the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) has adopted the GO TO 2040 comprehensive regional plan for the year 2040, including transportation. The LCDOT has successfully secured funding from the CMAP Unified Work Program (UWP) to create a Year 2040 Lake County Transportation Priority Plan, which will update the Year 2020 Transportation Priority Plan. This effort will be finalized in 2013 and based on the GO TO 2040 Regional Plan, including the Central Lake County Corridor: IL 53 North and IL 120 Limited Access as now described in the Illinois Route 53/120 Blue Ribbon Advisory Council’s final report. The county will no longer need to have 2 county highway plans for the 2 finalists alternatives of the former Lake County Transportation Improvement Project initial study results. The updated county transportation plan will again have a bicycle component and a transit component, which for this plan will closely follow the RTA Strategic Plan and GO TO 2040. 26 • 2013 - 2018 Highway Improvement Program
