Varsity Sports
Girls fencing had one of their most successful seasons to date. They were Bergen Passaic League
Division II Champions. They placed second at the
Bergen County Championships. Coach Pat Lawrence was the North Jersey Coach of the Year. Senior Alisa Attles was 1st Team All North Jersey, 1st
Team All County, and 1st Team All-League. Senior Donna Sokoli was 2nd Team All North Jersey,
3rd Team All County, and 1st Team All-League.
Other fencers receiving All-League honors were
Graciela Codina, Serena Maldonado, Dominique
Canton, and Brianna Warrick.
Both the girls and boys swim teams again earned
Gold Team Status honors for their team grade point
averages – the girls’ team had a GPA of 3.888 and
the boys’ team
had a GPA of
3.855. The
girls’ team
qualified for the
State Tournament for the
first time since 1992.
The boys’ team won 5 events at the County Meet of
Champions and set the county record for the 200
yard freestyle relay. Eight school records were set
this year by the boys’ team and Jason Arthur now
owns all 11 school records. Jason also won two
state championships, was named the New Jersey
Swimmer of the Year, for the second time was
named the North Jersey
Swimmer of the Year, earned
All-American status in 5
events and was also named an
Academic All-American.
The boys’ basketball team had a tremendous year.
The boys were Big North National Division Champions, Group 3 North 1 Champions, and Group 3
State Champions. Sophomore Ja’Quaye James
scored 1000 points during the season. Junior Jawaun Daniels was named North Jersey Player of
the Year. Ja’Quaye James and Jawaun Daniels
were First Team All-State Group 3, First Team All
North Jersey, First Team All-County, and First
Team All-League. Nicholas Whitaker was also
First Team All-League, GeAni Bannerman and
Adrian Baucom were named 2nd Team All-League.
Softball completed a fine season with a varsity
squad of very young players. Seven of the starting
ten were selected to All League Honors (Ashley
Sosa, Lauren McGriff, Kayla Merrow, Janiah Luciano, Erin Emery, Mika Rivera and Se
