If a child is absent , parents are asked to contact the school as early as possible .

Call the attendance secretary in the middle schools and high school : TJ ( 201 ) 833-5520 BF ( 201 ) 833-5450 THS ( 201 ) 833-5415 ( tape );( 201 ) 833-5575 At the kindergarten , elementary and middle schools , if the absence hasn ’ t been reported , the nurse will call the parent later in the day . At Teaneck High School , if the absence isn ’ t reported , it is considered non-excused until a signed note is submitted to the homeroom teacher .

Upon returning to school , a student must present a note signed by a parent , guardian or physician . This must include the student ’ s name , date ( s ) and reason for absence .

According to Board of Education policy , excused absences include illness , approved religious holidays and / or death in the family . Students who are excused will be able to make up assignments and exams . Credit is not given for assignments missed during unexcused absences , but students who will be on vacation or visiting college / school campuses may make up work if prior approval has been granted by the school administrator . Board of Education policy specifically outlines penalties for high school students with excessive absences .
