A Warm Welcome From Mayor Roxanne Carr and Council Welcome to Strathcona County! Strathcona County is a vibrant specialized municipality that offers almost 96,000 residents the perfect blend of urban and rural living and an enviable quality of life. With all the amenities Strathcona County has to offer, combined with a high standard of living, our county is rated one of Canada’s most livable communities. It’s a place where families come to work, play and raise their children. It’s a place where seniors choose to stay and age-in-place. The County is made up of over 1,200 square kilometres that includes hamlets, acreages, urban neighbourhoods and rural and industrial lands. Home to 75 per cent of refining in western Canada, a thriving industry is a key driver of our economy, prosperity and quality of place. It provides the opportunity for businesses to grow with a greater range of choices in our community. Strathcona County has an appealing range of outdoor options. These include open spaces, an extensive network of parks and trails, as well as excellent outdoor recreation activities. It’s also home to a number of spectacular parks, recreation and culture facilities. Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy nature at Elk Island National Park, Cooking Lake – Blackfoot Provincial Recreation Area and at the Strathcona Wilderness Centre, our four-season outdoor adventure centre. Take in some bird watching, go camping or hiking, and try a round of disc golf in the warmer months. Strap on your cross-country skis or snowshoes and learn to love winter in the colder months. The County has a strong history of hosting national and international events at our world-class recreation facilities including: the Millennium Place, the Ardrossan Recreation Complex, the Kinsmen Leisure Centre and the Glen Allan Recreation Complex. This fall we are also excited to open our new swimming pool, Emerald Hills Leisure Centre and unveil upgrades made to the Glen Allan Recreation Complex. Our community pride shines throughout our festivals and events and can also be seen in the beautiful work done by our Strathcona in Bloom volunteers. In 2015 Communities in Bloom recognized Strathcona County as a Grand Champion. Culture is alive in Strathcona County with live music and performances happening at Festival Place and exciting exhibits displayed at Gallery@501. Summer visitors can take in Festival Place’s popular Patio Series, an outdoor concert series at scenic Broadmoor Lake Park. We invite you to explore the diversity, friendliness and community involvement that make Strathcona Co չ
