UK CONSTRUCTION WEEK: A BOOST TO THE INDUSTRY Set to become the leading industry event for construction and building professionals, UK Construction Week is going from strength to strength, gaining support from associations and trade bodies from across the industry. Organised by Media 10, the UK’s biggest design and build event company, UK Construction Week will be held at the Birmingham NEC from 6 – 11 October (with the trade days from 6 – 8 October). Bringing together nine shows under one roof, the event will play host to 1,000 exhibitors and more than 55,000 visitors. Free to attend, the event will feature Media 10’s hugely successful Grand Designs Live, the newly acquired Timber Expo and Build Show, as well as the Surface and Materials Show, Kitchens & Bathroom Live, Plant & Machinery Live, Energy 2015, HVAC 2015 and Smart Buildings 2015. For exhibitors, the event will offer valuable face-to-face time with active buyers, specifiers and decision makers from across the industry and for visitors, it will provide the opportunity to speak to suppliers and manufacturers from a wide range of diverse industry sectors. Shaping up to be a must-see on the industry calendar, UK Construction Week will be of particular value to the homebuilding and renovation sector with an impressive schedule of sector specific seminars, debates, workshops and panel discussions on offer. The comprehensive content schedule will draw upon the knowledge of the show’s prestigious event partners such as BRE, NHBC and RICS. A key highlight of this will be the Homebuilding theatre, hosted by the Build Show, which is dedicated to addressing the key issues facing the industry today such as self build potential in the UK, unlocking land for development, BIM and sharing best practice. David Marchant, Head of Marketing at the National House Building Council (NHBC), said: “It is vital for the house building industry that the quality of new homes continues to be paramount, providing homes that people want to live in. The Build Show offers house builders of all sizes a fantastic forum to network, share best practice and learn new skills – all under one roof.” In particular, recognising the growing significance of the skills shortage over the coming years, UK Construction Week will have a strong focus on training and development at the exhibition, with several skills-based sessions on the main seminar stage. In addition, the Homebuilding and Site Zones at the Build Show will look at the relationship between apprenticeships and house building in more depth. Another highlight will be the Smart Buildings CPD Hub. As the demand for more intelligent, interconnected homes increases, the Smart Buildings CPD Hub seminar content will address a number of prominent topics such as, lighting design and control, wireless networking and Big Data. As the future of construction becomes increasingly sustainable and cost efficient, Timber Expo will address how the role of timber can play a significant part in reaching this goal. Looking at topics like how to specify the right timber, why timber is perfect for self builds and future wooden cities, BM TRADA will take the lead in Timber Expo’s seminar schedule. Uniquely, the event will also provide the opportunity for key visitors to take part in a hosted buyer scheme, delivered in association with UK Construction Week’s knowledge partner Glenigan – the UK’s leading construction project sales leads provider. The programme allows participants to take part in a bespoke schedule of handpicked supplier meetings, seminars and networking events, all designed to help the visitor fulfil their project needs. What’s more, this service is completely free of charge. Thanks to the support from trade associations and partners from across the industry, UK Construction Week is on track to deliver a profitable and worthwhile experience for visitors and exhibitors alike.
