“ The outlook is very positive towards the recovery in Red Hook . Nobody is leaving ,” said Steve Tarpin , owner of Steve ’ s Key Lime Pie , who is working to create his business into a water and storm resistance space . “ If we get a tsunami , we ’ ll be in trouble , but another hurricane we ’ ll be able to deal with .”

Despite the fact that the Hurricane debilitated many of these businesses for months , the feisty little city hooked in its claws and refused to be dragged down .
Other businesses look to the future as well . The New York Water Taxi is increasing the amount of bumpers on its piers , and are looking to create better power systems to prevent future damage to its docks . The Pratt Institute is working with the Fairway to make it waterproof as well . Brooklyn Crab , a restaurant in Red Hook , was the only business that suffered very little damage , because of its unique stilted structure twelve feet off the ground . It may serve as a model for the years to come for the businesses in Red Hook .
