Eindhoven University of Technology selects Zadara Storage to support 300 + VMware servers

Eindhoven University of Technology ( TU / e ) has chosen the Zadara VPSA storage array architecture to support its TU / e campus and advanced research teams .
By leveraging the Zadara Storage VPSA On-Premise-as-a-Service ( OPaaS ) solution , TU / e has been able to enjoy the benefits of a pure opex model supporting its internal clients , while keeping its data on site within its data centre .
The Eindhoven University of Technology is located in the centre of Eindhoven , Netherlands , and is currently home to about 255 professors , 10,100 students , 243 Ph . D . graduates , 1,250 foreign students and 3,145 regular employees . Yearly , the Eindhoven University of Technology produces almost 3,000 scientific publications , 140 PhDawards , and 40 patents . As the storage needs of the university grew , each department procured , deployed and managed their own storage resources . The inefficien cies of having separate storage arrays in data centres throughout the TU / e campus became apparent . Each storage array needed to be managed and maintained separately . Devices were overprovisioned with excess unused capacity . A change was clearly needed .
After completing its due diligence by evaluating proposals from each of the leading storage providers , TU / e chose Zadara as its storage partner .

NetApp technology from LIMA underpins Manchester Grammar School IT overhaul

NetApp has announced that Manchester Grammar School , one of the UK ’ s leading independent schools for boys aged between seven and 18 , chose NetApp to revamp its data infrastructure and underpin the school ’ s business growth and reputation .
Over the past seven years , with the opening of its new junior school , Manchester Grammar School has grown to approximately 1,500 students and 300 staff . As a result , the school ’ s IT department has expanded from 400 workstations to 1,100 devices , including tablets and other mobile devices .
In line with this growth , the existing IT infrastructure , which relied on traditional diskto-disk to tape , was unable to cope with demand . It became inefficient , with data back up taking an entire weekend to complete , which was difficult to maintain and limited the scope for expansion .
Manchester Grammar School opted for a new infrastructure , which incorporates the NetApp FAS2552 , FAS2520 and NetApp SnapMirror from Lima . These solutions accelerate workloads and increases usable capacity , which helps address the school ’ s surge in data requirements . Using both the FAS2552 and FAS2520 , a SAN-to-SAN replication model was created to a disaster recovery location in the event of system failure .
