Although Jamaica
College beat Charlie
Smith 2-1 to lift the 2014
Manning Cup, it was
the Haile Selassie High
School (HSH) who was
the people’s champion.
Over the forty plus years
of the school existence
the boy’s soccer team
have never advanced
to the second round.
Under the leadership
of Coach Michael and Coach Paul, the 2014
team changed this trend with a second place
finish in Group D of the Manning Cup Football
competition. HSH finished with 19 points from
their 10 matches, winning 6 and loosing 3
with 1 draw. The team scored 16 goals while
conceding 10.
The result not only secured a place
in the second round for the first
time but also served as a rallying
point for the community as well as
the Great RasTafari Nation. Ras from

The Haile Selassie High School situated near
Three Miles, in the Payne Land - Tavaris Gardens region of South Western St. Andrew was
bequeathed as a royal gift to the people of
Jamaica by the Ethiopian Emperor. During his
three-day April 1966 State Visit to Jamaica, His
Imperial Majesty Emperor Haile Sellassie 1st
laid the foundation stone for the building of
the educational institution bearing his name.
