What will you see in the Eclipse Sky?
While the total eclipse lasts but a few minutes, the sky will be changing for about an hour before and after. The moments before and after the total eclipse are amazingly beautiful. Once totality has been reached, the sky will be dark like night. Will we see other stars or heavenly bodies? If so, what and where? Come and find out. This presentation will also include safety guidelines for viewing the eclipse.

Eclipse of a Generation
The total solar eclipse on August 21st 2017 will be the first on the continental US for almost 4 decades. For Wyoming it is the first in over a century, and for some parts of the US it is the first in several centuries. With this in mind, a consortium of professional and amateur astronomers are teaming up with museums, educators and emergency management
professionals to plan for what could be the most important astronomical event since the moon landings! Come and learn about the national planning and how Wyoming and Lander in particular fit into this national event.

Eyes on the Sky: What is a telescope and how does it work?
From the ground, to outer space; from the simplest telescopes of Galileo and Newton, to the most complex Next Generation Space Telescope (NGST) currently being designed, telescopes allow us to look beyond our world and learn more about our universe. The variety of existing telescopes include all of the wavelengths of the electromagnetic spectrum (gamma, x-ray, UV, visible, IR, microwave and radio wave). While, this presentation will focus on optical scopes, participants will be introduced to many of our large modern telescopes as well.
