ART COURSES : new !
The Art Course offerings have been redesigned for the 2017-2018 school year . All Art courses are now one semester long to allow greater flexibility in scheduling .
751 INTRODUCTION TO DRAWING AND PAINTING 0.5 credit
This course is designed to introduce students to the visual arts . Students in this course are introduced to the basic elements and principles of design , color theory , and the design process through drawing and painting . Students learn the concepts common to all the visual arts including line , shape , value , texture , color , space , and form .
752 INTRODUCTION TO 3D DESIGN 0.5 credit
This course is designed to introduce students to the visual arts . Students in this course are introduced to the basic elements and principles of three-dimensional art through sculpture , ceramics , and industrial design .
755 ADVANCED DRAWING AND PAINTING 0.5 credit Prerequisite : Introduction to Drawing and Painting ( or 760 ART I )
This course is designed for students who are interested in further developing their drawing skills and painting skills . Building upon the skills learned in Introduction to Drawing and Painting , students work in different color medias including color pencil , watercolors , acrylics , pastels , and inks .
756 PRINTMAKING AND MIXED MEDIA 0.5 credit Prerequisite : Introduction to Drawing and Painting ( or 760 ART I )
Students learn and apply basic printmaking techniques such as linoleum cuts , embossing and mono-prints . The importance of design as a step in the creative process is emphasized , as is the concept of quality workmanship .

SCULPTURE AND ADVANCED 3D DESIGN
0.5 credit
Prerequisite : Introduction to 3D Design ( or 760 ART I )
Students learn the various processes used to create three-dimensional artwork . Using a variety of traditional and alternative media and techniques , students build , sculpt , and model artwork .
759 CERAMICS AND CARVING 0.5 credit Prerequisite : Introduction to 3D Design ( or 760 ART I )
In this class , students create functional and nonfunctional clay pieces . Students learn and apply a variety of techniques and processes to create artwork using clay ; including hand building , wheel throwing and surface treatments . Clay , plaster , and mixed media
750 ART INDEPENDENT STUDY 0.5 credit Prerequisite : Two years of Art Courses AND teacher recommendation
769 PHOTOGRAPHY I 0.5 credit
In this course , students must demonstrate their knowledge of the artistic and commercial uses for photography as well as the history of this medium . Topics to be covered include basic camera controls and how to use them as well as the elements and principles of design as they relate to photography . Assignments include : portraits ; animals ; landscape ; action ; perspective ; lighting ; still life ; architecture ; photojournalism . Most assignments will be shot using a digital camera or an iPad . This course includes the exploration of iPad editing applications for photography . Students must have use of a 35mm or digital camera with adjustable controls ( manual setting options ). A supply list will be handed out and students will be responsible for purchasing some of their own materials .
