Founder Does Great Things To Raise Poverty Awareness At The School

By Siobhan Nelson

SCLA is a huge name that goes along with the prestige of Silver Creek. Silver Creek Leadership Academy is a program that not only teaches students about leading but the impacts their decisions have on the whole community. SCLA is a four year program. Each year it teaches students different subjects such as public speaking, culture and community service. As seniors, these students work all year on their capstone projects. On May 15th, the students will present their projects at the Evening of Excellence, so don forget to come join the many in the community that will be sharing these accomplishments with the students.

SCLA is proud to be able to call Kailla Sam an ambitious senior with a dream. Her enthusiasm for giving to others is something we all wish we had. Sam is a student involved in many different school activities ranging from athletics to academics. She is a leader in the school through her capstone project, Creek United. Sam hopes to raise money for two people in poverty in other countries and hopes that she will be able to bring the students a better understanding of poverty and how to help those in need. Her goal is to give enough money to these two individuals in poverty that they are in a better place. If her goal isn’t met, she would love for someone next year to take on her project. This March is Creek United Month, so be prepared for prizes and cool giveaways that will be happening. But be sure to bring in your dollar for one buck wednesday to Kailla Sam’s table at lunches and see what she’s doing next.
