homework every day. So you can see why the transition can be a little difficult for freshmen. My own experience of the transition from eighth grade to my freshman year was just like everyone else’s: difficult. The first few days of school were a big shocker. My planner was filled with upcoming essays, homework, getting permission slips signed, setting up binders/notebooks, and preparing for my first quiz. In middle school I wouldn’t even have had my first quiz until a couple of weeks into school. I then encountered the feeling of stress. It was something that was always on the back of my mind, even when I knew I had a couple of hours to finish tasks. With the amount of stress that we have experienced, we could all use a little help here and there. If SCHS could possibly have an optional class that anyone (grades 9th-12th) could take that would teach time management, how to take good notes, how to study efficiently, and organization skills, we’d be better prepared for the whole year. This class could be only the first two quarters of the semester so that we can use those skills throughout the rest of the year. Time management and the needed preparation is a crucial skill to obtain when trying to keep stress to a minimum. These ideas would help many students dealing with ongoing stressful nights of homework. Getting too much homework causes stress, which is compounded by being disorganized, letting the assignments pile up, getting less sleep, and feelings of failure. Students in high school get a lot of homework and writing assignments. Being disorganized and then letting more and more homework pile up only adds to their stress. To be organized and on top of daily work in school, students can use a school planner or agenda. A school planner is pretty much an organizer where students can write all their homework. Having an agenda can keep a student from falling behind in class, and it can really help have a great grade. This can help any student out there who is disorganized.
