homework every day. So you can see why the transition can be a little difficult for
freshmen.
My own experience of the transition from eighth grade to my freshman year was
just like everyone else’s: difficult. The first few days of school were a big shocker. My
planner was filled with upcoming essays, homework, getting permission slips signed,
setting up binders/notebooks, and preparing for my first quiz. In middle school I
wouldn’t even have had my first quiz until a couple of weeks into school. I then
encountered the feeling of stress. It was something that was always on the back of my
mind, even when I knew I had a couple of hours to finish tasks.
With the amount of stress that we have experienced, we could all use a little help
here and there. If SCHS could possibly have an optional class that anyone (grades
9th-12th) could take that would teach time management, how to take good notes, how to
study efficiently, and organization skills, we’d be better prepared for the whole year.
This class could be only the first two quarters of the semester so that we can use those
skills throughout the rest of the year.
Time management and the needed preparation is a crucial skill to obtain when
trying to keep stress to a minimum. These ideas would help many students dealing with
ongoing stressful nights of homework.
Can Being Stressed Affect a Student’s Education?
by Vanessa Morales-Quiroz
These days students are stressed about school, and it affects their education.
Getting too much homework causes stress, which is compounded by being disorganized,
letting the assignments pile up, getting less sleep, and
feelings of failure.
Students in high school get a lot of homework and
writing assignments. Being disorganized and then letting
more and more homework pile up only adds to their stress.
To be organized and on top of daily work in school, students
can use a school planner or agenda. A school planner is
pretty much an organizer where students can write all their
homework. Having an agenda can keep a student from
falling behind in class, and it can really help have a great grade. This can help any
student out there who is disorganized.
Lack of sleep can affect students’ education. Teens fall asleep in class and miss
daily work assignments. They find themselves lost in class and fall behind. If we got less
