Step 4 (Optional) Draw a horizontal line with a light colored eyeliner pencil along the net just underneath the occipital bone (the bone or bulge at the lower back of head). The area below the line is free space. DO NOT add any hair below that line. Step 5 Step 6 Untwist the braid from bottom to top and split it into two sections. We will use half of one braid for each knot to create a natural look. Time to crochet! One inch above the marked line in the middle of the mannequin head is where your first crochet extension will be placed. It is best to start in the middle of the head to have an accurate baseline foundation and keep rows straight and even. Step 7 With the crochet latch opened, slide the crochet needle in and up three holes in the weaving net. This way it will prevent tension in the net. Make sure the crochet needle is completely free of the weaving net once you’ve reached your third hole. Step 8 While the crochet latch is still open, hook the hair piece onto the needle and close the latch. Gently pull the crochet needle back DOWN through the same hole you inserted the crochet needle through. Remove the needle from the base of the extensions. Step 9 With your thumb and index finger, open the base loop of the extension about two inches wide, twist the base loop once, and with your other hand, grab the end of the extension and insert it into the loop. Step 10 Once the end is inserted into the base, pull the end of the extension and tighten the knot. Split the hair into two strands and pull hair to secure the knot. Step 11 When your first crochet extension is in place, move 2-3 holes to the right or left of the first extension and repeat steps 7-10 until your first row is completed. 39
