AYRSHIRE UPDATE
NEW APPOINTMENTS
Jackie Galbraith
Vice Principal
for Strategy,
Planning and
Performance
In October Jackie
Galbraith took up the
role of Vice Principal for
Strategy, Planning and Performance.
Jackie has overall responsibility for the quality
and business development directorates and
the marketing team.
She started her career as a computer
programmer in the semiconductor industry,
moving into lecturing in computer networks
at the University of Paisley where she was an
early pioneer of e-learning. At the Scottish
Council for Educational Technology, Jackie
led a directorate covering educational
software and web developments,
publications, and training courses for staff
in colleges and schools. Before she joined
Ayrshire College, Jackie advised ministers in
the Scottish Government on youth
employment, vocational education and skills.
“I’m really excited about the future for
Ayrshire College” says Jackie. “After advising
ministers on national policies like the Youth
Employment Strategy and the Commission for
Developing Scotland’s Young Workforce, I’m
delighted to be able to play a part in realising
the ambitions of these at a local level.”
Marie Macklin
Board of
Management
Marie Macklin is looking
forward to being able to
continue to improve
links between the
college and the
business community.
“Ayrshire is home to many large and small
businesses, across a variety of sectors. It‘s
vital we engage with them, make them more
accessible for students and help our young
people to experience and better understand
the business world and the opportunities that
are out there.”
Marie grew up in Kilmarnock, and her family
business, property development firm The Klin
Group, is based in the town. “I’m passionate
about Ayrshire, because it provided me with
so many opportunities. I’m thrilled about the
new college, it is a fantastic asset for the
area.”
“I believe strongly that employers should be
proactive in engaging with their communities,
helping to present opportunities and develop
talent. We’re all aware of the current
competitive nature of the job market - I well
understand why young people become
disheartened; we need every Ayrshire
College student to be self-confident and
better equipped to compete.”
Bill Costley
Chairman of
Costley and
Costley Hoteliers
Bill Costley is Chairman
of Ayrshire-wide Costley
and Costley Hoteliers,
home to famous local
establishments such as
the Brig o’ Doon Hotel in Ayr and Lochgreen
House in Troon.
A former Ayrshire College student and a
Master Chef at 21, Bill is held in great respect
by his peers within the business community
and hospitalit y industry. “I left school at 15
and was going nowhere really, until I
completed my City and Guilds training at
the college and that was the start of my
career,” he explains.
“Costley and Costley have had a long
successful relationship with the college
from the training of apprentices to the
development of bespoke courses and in the
employment of former students. Having seen
first-hand the quality of training the college
provides, I am looking forward to further
developing the college so it continues to
provide quality training which benefits
employees, employers and the wider local
community.”
new CAMPUS DESIGN REVEALED
Since appointing C3 as
our Preferred Bidder the
project team has continued
to review the design engaging
with College staff, students
as well as pupils from local
secondary schools to develop
key areas, in particular the
curriculum resource.
This engagement is key to the success of
these spaces as it allows the design team
to understand what staff and students
want and need them to deliver.
The team was excited to take the model
and the fly through of the college out to
the wider public and hear their thoughts
on the development and what they think
it means to the local community. It was
extremely interesting and feedback from
local people was very positive.
