10 SPRING 2015 Developing the young workforce Easter work placements at Community Windpower Ltd Easter break and will be focusing on the pre-planning side of a project in week one before joining the operational technical team in week two. TWO OF THE COLLEGE’S WIND TURBINE TECHNICIAN STUDENTS ARE BEING OFFERED AN INCREDIBLE WORK EXPERIENCE PLACEMENT WITH COMMUNITY WINDPOWER LTD. The lucky pair will be based at the energy company’s headquarters in Cheshire for a fortnight over the Over half the class of 26 applied for the roles and interviews were conducted by Community Windpower Ltd representatives at the end of February. As well as giving the chosen duo a wonderful experience working as part of a team in the wind power industry, the placement will aim to increase their knowledge of the sector as well as exposing them to a range of different industry-standard programmes. Ben Fielding, Project Manager at Community Windpower Ltd said “For the pre-planning stage, crucially, we give them a blank site. So instead of them copying they’ve got to think for themselves about the environmental constraints, access to the site. At the end of the week they’re asked to produce a small report and do a presentation to the project team. “In the second week they move onto the operational team. They’ll get a flavour of all the bits of the process, and on one of the days they’ll get to go onto a fully-functional wind farm.” NURSERY NEWS including recycling litter, food waste and health and wellbeing.
