AYRSHIRE UPDATE
JAMES WATT COLLEGE
EVERYONE at James Watt
College had a golden
opportunity to celebrate
in May.
The IIP report praised the “social
responsibility, equality and diversity, and
provision of learning and development
to meet business objectives” in place
across the college’s campuses.
The Kilwinning campus sparkled and
shone as staff received the prestigious
Investors in People Gold award.
To mark the occasion, golden tickets
were hidden around the campus,
entitling the finder to a special prize
on Gold Day. Staff decorated work
areas, dressed up in golden costumes
and children from the campus
nursery sang songs.
The college has worked towards
achieving the accreditation, which
recognises world class best practice, for
the last three years, satisfying 175
stringent criteria.
KILMARNOCK COLLEGE
KILMARNOCK College Hairdressing
students have shown they are a
‘cut above’ by raising more than
£600 for a local children’s charity.
The aspiring stylists, who are all studying for an
SVQ Level 3 in Hairdressing, collected donations at
their annual showcase event in aid of the Zak Scott
Braveheart Foundation. The charity helps children
and young people suffering from heart conditions.
The annual Hair Show, which took place at
Kilmarnock’s Grand Hall, gives students the chance
to display their talents.
Angela Sheridan, Curriculum Leader for Hair,
Beauty and Art at Kilmarnock College, says:
“I’m absolutely delighted the students have
managed to raise so much money for the Zak
Scott Braveheart Foundation. They’ve worked
very hard this year, and I’m very proud of them.”
PEDAL power has helped a
group of fitness fanatics from
Kilmarnock College raise more
than £700 for cancer charity
Tickled Pink.
HND Fitness students teamed up with
staff from ASDA Kilmarnock to take part
in a sponsored cycle in the store,
measured in terms of distance to places
around Scotland.
More than 30 volunteers took turns to
ride a static bike, provided by Fitness
First, from 9.30am until 3.30pm.
Each participant took a 15 minute shift in
a bid to clock up enough miles to ‘reach’
the Highlands and by the end of the
day, the cyclists had made it to Oban,
raising around £400 in the process.
HND Sports students hosted an all-day
girls’ football tournament in Kilmarnock,
raising a further £300 for the foundation.
