FOUNDATION APPRENTICES VISIT ENGINEERING LEADERS
OUR FOUNDATION APPRENTICES WERE GIVEN A TREMENDOUS INSIGHT INTO WORKING AS AN ENGINEER THANKS TO TRIPS ORGANISED BY THE AYRSHIRE ENGINEERING ALLIANCE .
The group visited Spirit AeroSystems in Prestwick and Kilmarnock ’ s MAHLE Group for a tour of their facilities .
At Spirit AeroSystems the group gained a vital insight into the aeronautical side of engineering , when the company showed the students how they produce wing components for Airbus A350 .
At MAHLE the students developed an understanding of the automotive industry , and they were particularly impressed to learn how MAHLE supplies engine parts to Formula 1 racing teams .
The Ayrshire Engineering Alliance supports growth within the local engineering sector , and future site visits to other Ayrshire engineering companies are in the pipeline for our students .
Stephen Lawrence of Prestwick Academy said “ I like making things and I see myself as a creative person , so it was very interesting to get a glimpse into life as an engineer .”
