9 WINTER 2016 COLLEGE DEVELOPMENT NETWORK ANNUAL AWARDS We had further success at the College Development Network awards which took place at the Grand Hotel in Glasgow in November. We were Highly Commended in the ‘Health and Wellbeing’ category and student Stephen Wilson (winner of the SQA Star Award) was Commended in the ‘Student Contribution’ category. We received our Highly Commended award in recognition of a number of health initiatives that have provided a hugely positive impact on the physical, emotional and social wellbeing of our students and staff. Celebration of Success Before we broke up for the festive break, staff came together for our annual ‘Celebration of Success’ awards night at Ayr Racecourse. Students at the College nominated teams and individuals for two awards, while nine categories were nominated by staff. The night was a huge success with fantastic prizes, donated by our generous sponsors, handed out during the raffle that followed the award ceremony. We would like to thank all of our sponsors for their continued support of this important staff event. Our first ever smoking cessation group ultimately led to the College becoming a smoke free environment after extensive consultation with staff and students. Our ‘Healthy Body Healthy Mind’ campaign was awarded three stars by Scottish Student Sport for the positive impact that it had made to the health and wellbeing of students - the highest mark ever achieved by a college. The Marketing Team Outstanding Achievement Award Stephen meanwhile was ‘Commended’ for his considerable contribution to the community after amassing over 300 hours of voluntary work within schools, community groups and several other organisations including Active Schools and Ayrshire Sportsability.
