22 WINTER 2016
Pledge to support care
experienced young people
WE WERE DELIGHTED TO
SIGN THE ‘PLEDGE TO
LISTEN’ AT A PIONEERING
CORPORATE TRAINING
EVENT DELIVERED BY THE
CHILDREN’S CHARITY ‘WHO
CARES? SCOTLAND’.
Signing the pledge commits
the College to supporting
young people who have been
brought up in care.
The pledge reads “Ayrshire
College pledges to listen and
take action to develop our
strengths as advocates for the
rights of care experienced
young people.”
Ayrshire was the first college
in Scotland to receive the
training from Who Cares?
Scotland, which developed
the course with support from
the Scottish Funding Council.
In 2015, all colleges and
universities in Scotland were
named in law as “corporate
parents” to young people with
care experience.
Senior staff who took part in
the training heard from Ashley
Cameron and Jamie
Dalgoutte, two inspiring care
experienced students and
campaigners.
