9 AUTUMN 2015 Developing the Young Workforce Skills Development Scotland visit Skills Centre of Excellence OUR SKILLS CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE PLAYED HOST TO MEMBERS OF THE SKILLS DEVELOPMENT SCOTLAND (SDS) BOARD. REPRESENTATIVES FROM THE COLLEGE AND NORTH AYRSHIRE COUNCIL MET THE SDS SERVICE DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE AT THE CENTRE IN IRVINE. The committee oversees a programme of service design, development and improvement on behalf of the SDS board in respect of their key services such as careers advice in schools and national training programmes such as Modern Apprenticeships. View our blog of sports students here... College Chair Willie Mackie is a member of the SDS board and chaired the meeting. Heather Dunk and Vice Principal Jackie Galbraith outlined the purpose of the Skills Centre of Excellence campus - situated within Irvine Royal Academy - which opened in September 2014 and attracted nearly 300 students in its first year. At the end of the discussion, current and previous students in engineering, sport and fitness, and hospitality talked to committee members about their experiences at Ayrshire College. Hospitality students, in their first week at the College, put into practice their new skills by providing a light buffet for our guests.
