Sports student Biatrice
Gabell recently
represented Scotland
in the Commonwealth
Youth Games held in
Samoa and lifted a
silver medal in the 53kg
weightlifting contest.
Biatrice, who won gold
alongside Emma Cook in
the badminton doubles
at the Association of
Colleges Sport National
Championships in Bath
earlier this year, took up
weightlifting two years ago.
She excelled in Samoa,
finishing with a 56kg snatch
and 73kg clean and jerk,
both personal bests, to
finish runner-up to Fiji’s
Ulina Sagone.
In the process, Biatrice
broke a staggering total
of NINE Scottish records
– three each from Youth,
Junior and Under-18s levels.
A PHOTOGRAPHY STUDENT MADE THE
SHORTLIST OF A UK-WIDE COMPETITION
WITH HER PHOTOS OF IRVINE HARBOUR,
WHICH WERE TAKEN DURING HER TIME ON
THE NC PHOTOGRAPHY COURSE.
Laura Anderson impressed judges for the
National History Ships UK competition with a
black and white photograph of a boat on the
harbour, and a colour shot of old tins from her
project last year.
She was invited to the awards ceremony on 22
October held on board HQS Wellington, berthed
on the Thames in London!
