“HAWK” - SUBMARINE
CABLE SYSTEM
In July 2009, PrimeTel proceeded
with the landing of a fibre optics
submarine cable system named
“Hawk”with a capacity of 4Tbps.
The Hawk cable is part of the world’s
biggest submarine fibre optics cable
system network, owned and managed
by Reliance Globalcom.
In 2011 the submarine cable
was activated.
This is the first time an independent
telecommunications infrastructure
is connected to an international
network, securing alternative routing
for the island and reinforcing Cyprus’
position as a telecoms hub in the
wider region.
