COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT Summer Camp Scholarships Children with an education rich in the arts are proven to score higher on standardized tests and learn valuable life and business skills such as strong critical thinking and creativity. Even in this tough economy, it is important that we work together to offer quality art education to students looking to advance their technical skills and knowledge about culture and history. The CMA wants to provide opportunities for children who love learning about art and to remove any ?nancial barriers for families who may not be able to afford classes and workshops. Summer camps provide students an immersive experience that gives them the opportunity to work in small groups and with high quality materials often not found in school classrooms. The adult to student ratio is high, which promises a great experience with personalized instruction. Two summer camp scholarships were awarded this summer by The CMA Docent Corps; one through the fundraising efforts of the Docent af?liate program and another in the memory of Constance Myers, a beloved docent who passed away this spring. “We are delighted to fund scholarships that focus on deserving individuals within this larger context. Docents know from hands-on experience the learning and fun that will result from our donation. The scholarships are a tangible demonstration of appreciation for the programs the Education Department and its amazing staff provide for all of us, as well as for the public,” docent Ann Holtschlag said. The docents will be offering these two scholarships on an annual basis. This year, thanks to an anonymous donor, who is dedicated to educating children through the arts, an additional scholarship was awarded. Constance Myers Summer Camp Scholarship: Naira, a student A.J.
