BE THE CMA Be the Curator Support the CMA The Columbia Museum of Art recently kicked off a new fundraising drive. “Be the Curator” is a fun and interactive contest that engages seven dedicated volunteers from the community. Donations raised through this drive go to the Annual Fund, which allows the CMA to provide award-winning educational offerings, exceptional exhibitions, meaningful community outreach, and dynamic programs and events. Our seven art-loving volunteers—Emily Brady, Brad and Stacy Collins, Kristian Niemi, Janet Parker, David Phillips, and Anne Postic—each chose a piece from the Museum’s collection that is not currently on view. The volunteer who raises the most money will have their piece placed on view this summer. It is ultimately up to the public to be the curator. Through their own words and efforts, the volunteers are helping to raise money for the Museum by energetically soliciting the public to support their chosen work of art by making a donation in their name to the CMA. The winner will be announced during the CMA’s Annual Meeting on Thursday, May 15, 2014. Volunteers are actively soliciting donations in whatever ways they choose. Most are working online and through social media, while others are hitting the streets, asking their employers, and even involving their family members. Gifts of all sizes are encouraged, as they all add up to make a difference. The goal of the drive is to raise critical funds for the Museum and encourage the spirit of philanthropy, all the while educating the public on what it means to be a curator.
