Peter Hoyt, the Museum’s adjunct curator for music, presents an overview of the tumultuous period that begins with Beethoven and encompasses beloved composers like Schubert, Chopin, and Brahms. These discussions illuminate the dynamic culture that produced some of the greatest masterworks in the European concert tradition. In addition to examining the interrelationships between composers and painters, the lectures emphasize how an increasingly mechanized world began to shape the modern musical experience. $80 / $64 for members. Lydia Mattice Brandt earned her PhD degree from the University of Virginia in the history of art and architecture. Her work focuses on popular American architecture of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Professor Brandt teaches the history of American art and architecture, as well the theory and methods of historic preservation at USC. $60 / $
