Williams opened on Monday, February 13, in the David Wallace Robinson, Jr. Atrium to a crowd of over 250. Board member Luther Batiste and our newest membership affiliate, the Friends of African American Art and Culture, helped make this important exhibition a reality. Attendees enjoy the Van Gogh Biography Lecture and Book Signing featuring Steven Naifeh and Gregory White Smith, Museum members and authors of Van Gogh: The Life. Mayor Steve Benjamin and State Superintendant Mick Zais enjoy a tour of Nature and the Grand American Vision with curator Will South following a Public Officials Appreciation Breakfast. She moved to Columbia from Charleston, South Carolina, where for five and a half years she was the director of contemporary art gallery, Martin Gallery. Development work is a natural fit for Kit’s personality and interests. As an artist and arts enthusiast, she is passionate about the Museum’s mission to educate, inspire and enrich lives through art, and is thrilled to be working for this organization. Kit Porter received her B.A. in Studio Art from Sewanee: The University of the South, in Tennessee.
