MEMBER NEWS Board Member Highlight Joel Smith, III My interest in the arts has developed over time, especially from my involvement with the Spoleto Festival USA and from a growing appreciation that the arts gives voice to the spiritual nature of a community. I am also convinced that a robust arts community is critical to a successful economy. The Columbia Museum of Art – with its location, its size, and its mission – is our most visible and tangible sign of our region’s commitment to the arts. My goal as a member of the Board is to help establish a sustainable operating model for both certain and uncertain times. This should include the appropriate mix of programs to serve the public and thereby insure financial support. As a member of the finance committee, I will help advance this goal remembering that programming and funding are, of course, linked. Leave a Legacy Including the Columbia Museum of Art in your will or estate plan can help you make a lasting impact on the arts in our community for generations to come!
