Winter Workshops are a Family Favorite Winter Workshops are a favorite among kids and parents. Kids attend a twoday mini-camp to learn art history and techniques through fun and creative projects and activities, while parents get some time for last minute shopping or just some much-needed relaxation. These twoday Winter Workshops are on Monday, December 19, and Tuesday, December 20, from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm. Workshop choices include: Art Express: Explorers (ages 4-6) Children travel to a time gone by as they explore the wilds of the Hudson River! Young artists create maps and tools to take on their travels where they discover never before seen animals and plants. Grand Scheme of Things (ages 7-10) This workshop focuses on landscapes. Children enjoy sketching in the galleries among the impressive works of Thomas Cole, Albert Bierstadt, Frederic Church and others. In the studios they create a large scale landscape painting. Cookiefest 2011 (ages 8-12) Learn the art of cookie decorating just in time for the holidays! Students learn how to make different types of frostings and the techniques needed to create cookies too beautiful to eat! Students leave the two day workshop with a basket full of goodies to share! All that Glitters is Gold (ages 8-12) Discover how gold has been used in art throughout time and create your own works in gold. Celebrations Around the World (ages 4-7) “Travel” to different countries and discover new and exciting traditions from around the world. Create unique works of art based on your adventures. Docent of the Year: Maureen Mahon Columbia Museum of Art Docents are proud to announce Maureen Mahon as our Docent of the Year. Maureen has been a member of the Docent Corps for more than fifteen years. She brings to the job so many attributes; her love of art, love of education, and her strong involvement in her church. All of these make her a valuable member of the Docent Corps and a wonderful friend to so many of us. Maureen Mahon brings fun and laughter to the Docent Corps with her constant smile and cheery personality.
