David Clydesdale . Through that contact I played on some of the first recordings for Sandi Patti , Steve Green and Larnelle Harris , which led to years of recording projects .
[ Dave ] Have you recorded with artists from other musical genres ?
[ Craig ] Yes , I have been fortunate enough to work with many great artists over the years from Dolly Parton to Amy Grant , Garth Brooks to Michael Martin Murphy , Randy Travis to Cliff Richard , Steven Curtis Chapman to Johnny Cash , Blake Shelton , Chet Atkins and Jack Jones just to name a few . However , some of the most interesting recordings I have played on were instrumental in nature , whether artist driven or soundtracks for video games and movies .
[ Dave ] Has being able to work in so many different musical settings been a real challenge ?
[ Craig ] It is a challenge I enjoy . There were so many situations where I have had to switch styles . Getting your mind around each genre makes you stronger . They all relate in surprising ways .
[ Dave ] What instruments are your favorites ?
[ Craig ] The ‘ 64 Fender Jazz Bass in the picture is one I use a lot . Several other electrics that I carry with me are a Yamaha TRB 1005 and a 2025X , a Marco Precision bass , Curbow Fretless , Sadowsky 5-string and lately I have really enjoyed playing a Boulder Creek acoustic bass guitar . My main double basses are an English instrument made in the early1800 ’ s , which has been converted to a 5-string , and a 1953 King which I use for certain styles and playing jazz live . I continue to be amazed at the wonderful musicians that live in Nashville , including yourself , Dave . No matter what instrument , or style of music required , there are a number of great players to choose from to fill the need ! I have been blessed to be a part of the industry for so many years . www . CraigNelsonBass . net
