>>>REALLOCALS>>>
Sue-Ellen Berger
Hi Sue- Ellen, how
long have you
been a local?
All my Life, born in
Murwillumbah at the then Tweed
District Hospital in 1969 same as my
father before me.
What is the best thing that has ever
happened to you?
The best thing that has ever
happened to me was falling in love.
Robert’s and my first date out was to
an old-time country ball held at uKI.
i was really nervous wondering what
I had let myself in for asking this man
out. First dance, he swept me off
my feet and they haven’t touched
since. We are still honeymoon 15
years later.
What is the worst thing that has ever
happened to you?
Falling out of touch with some of the
really lovely people I have known.
What was your saddest moment?
Realising I was never going to be tall.
What was the catalyst a major
change in your life?
Again, falling in love. One simple
dance led to a complete change
in my life. From single and lonely,
to happily married inheriting four
kids. Though maybe I should say
five, as hubby can be the biggest
kid of the lot and at the least the
others have grown up and left
home. I was running a bookkeeping
business which meant working with
paperwork, numbers and business
people. Now we have a family
business in the holiday industry,
major differences in the work and
the customers. Working together,
Robert and I have grown the
houseboat business he established
in 1994 to the largest houseboat
fleet on the Tweed River offering the
best houseboat holiday experience.
What do you do when you are not
working?
There doesn’t seem to be a lot of
this time but I really enjoy cuddling
with my husband. When I can take
the time out, I like to take my mother
shopping, just as an excuse to sit
down and have a cuppa and chat.
How do you recharge your batteries?
A couple of nights away with my
husband, with or without friends,
does wonders to refresh and renew
body and mind. The opportunity
to be away from work and go for a
walk, read a book or just watch the
world go by I find is a great way to
relax and recharge.
What do you feel the most guilty
about? Spending too mu
