>>>REALLOCALS>>> Sue-Ellen Berger Hi Sue- Ellen, how long have you been a local? All my Life, born in Murwillumbah at the then Tweed District Hospital in 1969 same as my father before me. What is the best thing that has ever happened to you? The best thing that has ever happened to me was falling in love. Robert’s and my first date out was to an old-time country ball held at uKI. i was really nervous wondering what I had let myself in for asking this man out. First dance, he swept me off my feet and they haven’t touched since. We are still honeymoon 15 years later. What is the worst thing that has ever happened to you? Falling out of touch with some of the really lovely people I have known. What was your saddest moment? Realising I was never going to be tall. What was the catalyst a major change in your life? Again, falling in love. One simple dance led to a complete change in my life. From single and lonely, to happily married inheriting four kids. Though maybe I should say five, as hubby can be the biggest kid of the lot and at the least the others have grown up and left home. I was running a bookkeeping business which meant working with paperwork, numbers and business people. Now we have a family business in the holiday industry, major differences in the work and the customers. Working together, Robert and I have grown the houseboat business he established in 1994 to the largest houseboat fleet on the Tweed River offering the best houseboat holiday experience. What do you do when you are not working? There doesn’t seem to be a lot of this time but I really enjoy cuddling with my husband. When I can take the time out, I like to take my mother shopping, just as an excuse to sit down and have a cuppa and chat. How do you recharge your batteries? A couple of nights away with my husband, with or without friends, does wonders to refresh and renew body and mind. The opportunity to be away from work and go for a walk, read a book or just watch the world go by I find is a great way to relax and recharge. What do you feel the most guilty about? Spending too mu
