These programs are endorsed by the Danish government who believe in the benefits that these experiences provide for the younger generation. The students were welcomed to the Tweed Valley by the Mayor Barry Longland in a ceremony held on Sunday which included a cultural performance by local community members. The Mayor said “this was a great opportunity for the Danish students to discover the melting pot of cultures that this community represents.” Students will live with local host families for the duration of their stay becoming involved in family activities and getting a feel for the life we lead here on the beautiful North Coast. TAFE’s International study program gives students the opportunity to study abroad in Australia whilst still completing their current qualifications. These subjects such as technology and sustainability are integrated with some unique learning experiences that reflect our Australian culture, like the design and construction of environmental friendly surfboards. Students will also complete an 8 week surf safety program and participate in learn to surf lessons in preparation for testing out their own boards upon completion. There are a number of exciting excursions planned for the group such as a visit to a Burleigh surfboard factory to obtain some tips on making a board. The students will visit Currumbin Bird Sanctuary where they will get up close and personal with the koalas and kangaroos, then spend their semester break discovering the iconic landmarks of Sydney. To top off their stay, the group will embark on a one week backpacking tour of Northern Queensland. AUGUST 2013 > COFFEE SHOP GOSS > NORTH COAST > 5
