Some Wisdom for Working Mums At NORTEC, we acknowledge the value of work in creating a healthy, vibrant community. That’s why we strive to create opportunities and inspire futures for our local jobseekers by truly listening to understand and seeking real solutions for both jobseekers and employers in our region. We offer a range of recruitment services, including commercial labour hire and Australian Government funded no-fee recruitment services. Our Disability Employment Services division are a special team at NORTEC who assist persons with a disability into meaningful employment. Usually it only takes a few minor modifications (which we can assist with) to enable jobseekers to work happily and reap the benefits that work can bring, not just financially but emotionally and physically – and their employer reaps the benefit of a loyal employee! For more information on staffing or assistance in finding work, call NORTEC on 1800 667 832 or visit www.nortecltd.com.au 2 Its hard work being a mum plus working. Below are five pieces of advice for mothers juggling work and motherhood. 1. Make peace with the trade-offs You may not be able to be there for all the activities in your children’s lives but accept the trade-offs and remind yourself of the reasons – financial rewards, a life outside of your home that enriches you, providing an example of work ethics to your kids. 2. Replace should with could Instead of focusing on what you ‘should’ be doing, change the word to could – focussing on what is reasonable for your time opens possibilities, not crippling you with remorse or guilt. 3. Schedule special times When you are with your children, don’t dilute the time with distractions. Schedule a ‘special’ time, like a once a week outing for a hot chocolate, and wholeheartedly listen to them, this ‘speaks’volumes. 4.Refuse to buy into guilt-mongers You know the type – experts on everything parental from diapers to discipline. There is no ‘one way as the right way’ to parenting. Of course you’ll drop the ball once in a while, it’s an opportunity to teach resourcefulness and that you (and your children) are only human after all. www.coffeeshopgoss.com.au > BANORA POINT TO KIRRA > MAY 2015
