QUALITY ALIGNED WITH SERVICE
KEEPS COLOURKOTE AHEAD
In 1997, Neil Rodgers and Tracy
Basden spotted the potential in
the growing colour applicator
sector and opened their business
– ColourKote, in Hansworth
Sheffield in South Yorkshire
and became one of the first
businesses to take advantage of
the trend.
They moved to their current
premises in Dinnington, also in
South Yorkshire, in 2004 when
the market was vibrant market
and this new product available to
the fabricators was seen as a major,
innovative, added value product.
The colour applicator sector saw
the very best of the market from
2001 until 2006. Order books
were full and the length and
breadth of the country this niche
market enjoyed its best period
and grew considerably.
In 2007, however, the uPVC
extruders recognised the threat
from the applicators and started
to extrude a small range of
coloured profiles. But in doing
so, they failed to extrude a
full coloured system - leaving
the applicators to provide the
additional profiles, cills, drips,
cover caps, and the like. When
the period of austerity arrived,
the profile companies then began
to extrude in numerous different
colours.
But looking ahead, ColourKote
had anticipated this move and
diversified into other markets to
ensure its longevity during what
became a prolonged difficult
trading period.
Today ColourKote is in a
healthy position, thanks to the
directors’ foresight in ensuring
they were servicing a range of
different sectors. With the major
companies having reorganised
their manufacturing bases, they
now naturally prefer to deal with
the service suppliers who have
given them quality, service and
competitive prices during this
period. In fact, customer loyalty
continues to play a big role in the
continuing ColourKote success
story.
“In today’s competitive
marketplace, it is often the level
of service that wins the business,”
Neil said. “We have always made
service aligned with quality
our priority and we provide a
guarantee with all of the work
ColourKote carries out.
The company is able to offer
thousands of different colours
in addition to the RAL range.
Farrow and Ball and Heritage
colours are currently among the
most popular.
