businessnews Tested to the limit… and beyond Windows and doors are the crucial first line of defence to keep homes safe, weatherproof and secure. Innovative fabricator Whiteline ensures that products are tested and accredited to the latest standards for security and weather testing, BS7412/7950 (Windows) & PAS023/024 (Doors), by regular submissions to their nominated testing houses. “A recent batch of products, as expected, all passed with flying colours. But then with Mila, who test our doors, we took things a little further” explains Leighton Baitup, Production Manager at Whiteline. The latest Whiteline PAS 024 security specification door incorporates laminated glass; aluminium reinforced panel; panel clips; Liniar screw retainer; security lock keeps; security lock cylinder and a new Berwick security handle set developed with Fab&Fix. The door was tested with the ‘standard’ toolkit for a period of 3 minutes without entry gain, securing a pass certificate. We then agreed with Mila that they could continue the testing… to destruction. Their engineers proceeded to attack the door for a further 10 minutes until, leaving many a mark on the door but failing to gain entry, they eventually decided to give up, “Which demonstrates the quality of Whiteline PVCu product construction,” confirmed Baitup. www.whiteline.co.uk, 01323 723724 EXTENDING THE BI-FOLD LEAD Eurocell is continuing to push the boundaries of design and performance in the bi-fold door category with the announcement that its Aspect system has achieved Secured by Design status, hot on the heels of BBA certification. This is the latest accolade for the successful Aspect bi-fold door, which recently became, and remains, the first and only system of its kind to gain British Board of Agrément (BBA) approval. Meeting the requirements of these two important standards means that Aspect bi-fold doors are fully accredited for all new build applications, where Secured by Design is increasingly being specified. Aspect is an innovative panoramic door system with ultra slim frames that offers over 30 unique features, many of them patented, and was ‘Highly Commended’ in the Housebuilder Awards 2012 Best Product category. The Eurocell Aspect bi-fold door system is now listed on the official Secured by Design website at: http://www. securedbydesign.com/companies/, where this specification is currently available through Eurocellfabricator Nationwide Windows. “Eurocell fabricators now have the ability to offer housebuilders something that they will not be able to find anywhere else in the market,” said Ian Kernaghan, Product Manager at Eurocell. FABRICATOR AND INSTALLER DATABASE PASSES 14,000 EMAIL CONTACTS Insight Data has announced that 95% of window companies now use email, a rise of 50% in just three years. The number of fabricator and installer email contacts has risen from 9,000 in 2010 to a record 14,000 addresses in July 2013. Helen Costeloe-Hughes, commercial director at Insight Data, explains; “there is a real change in attitudes. While much of the industry is email-savvy, there has always been a strong element that was old-fashioned and preferred telephone and fax. But now even the most traditional window companies have moved to email.” Part of the change has been the growth of mobile devices such as iPhones and tablet computers, as fabricators and installers find these business tools indispensable and with 53% of people now using their mobile device to access emails. “With over 14,000 fabricator and installer email contacts, updated live in real-time by the Insight research team, this creates enormous opportunities for email marketing. At Insight Data we have seen a significant rise in open rates and enquiries from email as fabricators and installers are more open to email communication” adds Helen.
