hardware&security NATIONAL ASSOCIATIONS SIGN UP TO ARGE EPDS YALE DOOR AND WINDOW SOLUTIONS FOCUSES ON INNOVATION Yale Door and Window Solutions highlights the importance of new product innovation after receiving plaudits for its Blade window locking system, which incorporates the company’s patented rotary action mechanism. The Yale Blade window locking system utilises distinctive new technology to deliver multiple benefits to fabricators, installers and homeowners alike. Jon Walker, Marketing and Product Manager at Yale Doors and Window Solutions, comments: “The feedback from the first fabricators and installers to switch to Yale Blade has been very positive. Our customers can already see its benefits, both on a technical level, and for homeowners and social housing residents across the UK.” The Yale Blade is a fully retracting window locking system that sits flush within the eurogroove, completely eliminating cam clash issues. Engaging the full length of the keep, the Yale Blade provides ultimate security and peace of mind while totally eliminating alignment issues during manufacture. Additionally, an ingenious cartridge-based gearbox allows simple switching between left and right hand, enabling an effective solution for remedial repairs. Jon adds: “We believe that the Yale Blade’s success will only continue to grow as more fabricators and installers discover this revolutionary new window locking system, and harness the power of the Yale brand to help drive their own business forward.” Yale Door and Window Solutions continues to invest heavily in new product development with the creation of a Yale branded PAS24 Window, which is due to be launched later this year. Jon concludes: “ASSA ABLOY is a global leader in both door and window solutions. With the Yale brand we have strong recognition and loyalty both within the trade and the buying public, and we can continue to build on that reputation with the new Yale Window.” For more information, or to request a free sample, please visit www.yaleblade.co.uk To read more, visit www.clearview-uk.com Following ARGE’s announcement to produce generic Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), 10 national lock and hardware associations have now signed up to ARGE’s scheme – with more to follow. The programme, which was agreed at the 2013 ARGE Conference as part of its sustainability roadmap, will see the delivery to ARGE members of generic, Pan-European EPDs for hardware products by summer 2015. In addition to the UK’s Door and Hardware Federation, some of the key national associations in the lock and hardware industry have committed to the programme, including the Fachverband in Germany, UNIQ in France, as well as Spain’s AFACE, Austria’s FMMI and Netherland’s VHS. Italy is the latest nation that has committed to the EPDs, while Scandinavian associations are also represented by Finland’s Fin Committee and the SME in Sweden, with Switzerland’s VSSB making up the nine members signed up so far. Other national associations are also close to committing. EPDs are designed to offer a coherent expression of data throughout the life cycle of a product. Developed to provide environmental data from LCA studies in a common format based on rules known as Product Category Rules. Commenting on the importance of the programme, Hans Weissenböck, ARGE Chairman, said: “We are delighted that 10 national associations, including some of the most influential in our industry, have recognised the importance of the sustainability agenda and the commercial benefits of generic EPDs. “EPDs are the most effective way for communicating a product’s verifiable and accurate environmental information, which is becoming increasingly imperative in the construction market, which is why ARGE took the decision to create generic versions for our national members. “The development of generic Pan-European EPDs from ARGE, which can be used across a range of applications, will be critical in enabling hardware manufacturers to access the construction market and remain competitive in a market increasingly subject to European and international standards. “We hope that more national associations will recognise the commercial value of the programme and join us in Veneto to discuss the details and next stages for ARGE.” Register online at: http:// arge.org/events/2014-veneto/ invitation.htm SEP 2014 89
