industrynews Productive in Tough Year The Glass and Glazing Federation has released its Annual Report for 2012 showing a financially stable position against the tough economic conditions in the period. GGF President, Mark Warren Managing Director of Lister Trade Frames stated, “2012 proved another very difficult year for the industry. Throughout the year, the GGF Membership held firm as the Federation continued to support Members with advice and guidance on important legislative, technical and health and safety issues.” Nigel Rees, GGF Group Chief Executive commented, “The Federation’s Membership again stood up well to the trading pressures they faced. Our focus during 2012 was the implementation of our Strategic Review and to put in place our new structures and plans for 2013. “This Annual Report reflects the Federation’s hard work on technical, political and legislative issues such as Green Deal and CE marking. The Report also highlights how we are improving Members’ benefits, and in particular the growing number of online benefits. Of course, we can never be complacent and our work continues. Working for our Members and with our Members we can overcome the challenges the industry faces in the foreseeable future.” www.ggf.org.uk SUSTAINABILITY STANDARD Rheinland Cert GmbH has officially certified the profine Group’s energy management system based on the international ISO 50001:2011 standard. Following intensive preliminary work over the last few years, the profile manufacturer managed to establish this system consistently at all three of its sites in Germany under the KBE, Kömmerling and Trocal brands. ‘The cost effective use of energy is one of the key topics of our times. Our greenline sustainability strategy has already made a clear mark on the market, with energy efficient window systems, lead free stabilisers in virgin material, and intelligent recycling. And we are now establishing yet another pillar in the form of our energy management system,’ explained Gerhard Schwager, COO of the profine Group. ‘After material and personnel, energy is the most important production factor, and we intend to make careful use of our valuable resources,’ continued Schwager. Against this background, profine has reorganised its energy management, set itself binding energy targets and has consistently expanded its present energy management system. These energy targets include a specific saving in extrusion energy of at least 3.5% in the first year. DEDICATED FACTORY OPENED Following the immense success of its newly launched Residence 9 (R9) flush sash window, Dekko Window Systems has opened a new factory dedicated to R9 production. The new factor y measures 6,000 sq ft and will enable Dekko to increase output and satisfy the strong customer demand. Dekko’s original 28,000 sq ft factory will be used to manufacture its Deceuninck and Kömmerling uPVC windows and doors. Dekko’s sales director Kurt Greatrex comments: “When we launched R9 at the beginning of the year we started fabricating the product in our main factory alongside our existing range. This was absolutely fine at the time, but it soon became clear we would need additional space to keep up with the strong customer demand. Fortunately there was a vacant site in nearby Oldham so we bought it and moved in. It’s proved an excellent decision. Production is running smoothly at both sites and our customers are continuing to benefit from the excellent service they have become accustomed to.” Dekko is currently producing 300 R9 windows and doors per month, a figure that is continuing to grow, and as a by-product, sales of the Company’s Deceuninck and Kömmerling windows have also increased.
