HARDWARE&SECURITY
GIVE A LIFE-SAVING GIFT THIS CHRISTMAS
At Christmas, families gather together to enjoy the seasonal festivities.
But, amidst the merrymaking, safety can be overlooked.
As candles, Christmas trees and mountains
of wrapping paper can cause a fire hazard,
distracted parents may also struggle to keep
tabs on what dangerous adventures their
excited young children are having.
It is a sad fact that a number of children are
killed, and thousands are injured, through falling
from windows in the UK every year.
So a leading safety campaigning firm is
spreading the festive message that “there’s no
better Christmas present than a Jackloc.”
Jackloc, a British family company run by sisters
Emma Well and Judith Burrows, created the
award-winning, original universal window and
door restrictor 10 years ago.
Since then, as well as supplying an increasing
range of restrictors, it has also campaigned
tirelessly to educate people on the dangers of
unrestricted windows.
Emma Wells, Director of Jackloc, said: “It is
easy to get carried away with the carefree fun of
Christmas but we think it is an ideal time to also
think about how people can improve safety in
their home.

people can improve
safety in their home’
“As a family-run firm, we are all too aware of
the risks that unrestricted windows and doors
can pose to children but also to dementia
sufferers, confused vulnerable adults and even
revellers who have had a little too much to
drink.
“At this time of year, when our thoughts turn
to our loved ones, we urge people to think about
giving a gift which can save lives, not just at
Christmas but throughout the years to come.”
The Jackloc was the brainwave of Emma’s
father Derek Horne, who was prompted to
design the cable restrictor after hearing a young
child hanging out of a hotel window, screaming
for help. He named his invention after his
grandson Jack.
Emma and her late sister Deborah Jennings
took up their father’s idea and turned Jackloc
into a global success story. As the Leicestershirebased company celebrates its 10th anniversary, it
has achieved record sales this year.
More than half a million Jacklocs have been
sold all over the world, from Russia to Australia,
USA to Arabia. They are fitted in care homes,
hospitals, schools, student accommodation,
high-rise flats and hotels, including the Ritz hotel
in London and 20,000 Travelodge rooms across
the UK.
