DOORS&WINDOWS TAKE ADVANTAGE OF OPPORTUNITIES IN COMPOSITE DOOR MARKET The composite door market is the fastest-growing sector of the industry so to make the most of the many opportunities available, it makes sense to choose your door supplier wisely. Distinction Doors was one of the first to enter this market when it was founded in 2004 and it remains one of the leading names today. As Drew Wright, Distinction Door’s MD, says, it’s a market leader for good reason too. “Our composite door is a premium product designed to appeal to discerning homeowners,” he says. And for Drew, there are five reasons why his company’s doors offer something more than a standard PVC-U, timber or solid core composite door: security, maintenance, energy efficiency, impressive personalisation options, structural and surface warranties, culminating in its proven pedigree with more than two million sold into the UK to date. For busy installers, a distinct advantage is that Distinction doors are genuinely ‘fit and forget’ due to their superior technical excellence and quality - and installers can rely on a strong marketing support package as well. This high security component locks together the outerframe and sash on a casement window and despite this sustained attack, the burglar was forced to leave empty handed. The windows were manufactured and installed by Arden Windows, a Coventrybased fabricator and installer of bespoke timber products. Arden use components from GT Window Products to speed up fabrication and installation time and improve the overall security of their windows and doors. The Dummy Sash Lok helps fabricators and installers quickly fit dummy sashes into a window frame. It can be used on PVC-u, aluminium or timber frames and is designed so that factory glazed or site glazed windows can have even sightlines fitted with minimum fuss. The clip set includes a plastic profile related moulding, steel locking plate and reinforced top plate for the outerframe and a plastic moulding and key plate for the sash. www.gtwindowproducts.co.uk or call 01684 290944. www.ardenwindows.net or call 02476 632423 TALLEST TIMBER BUILD GOES FOR PVC-U It may be Europe’s tallest timber-framed building but the designers chose PVC-U for the windows for the prestigious Falkland House student accommodation complex, recently completed in Liverpool’s fashionable Islington district. Standing at eight storeys tall with more than 100 bedrooms, apartments and studio units, the styling of the complex is complemented by grey on white casement windows in VEKA Matrix 70 from Glazerite Windows Ltd and installed by Hardmans Double Glazing Ltd of Wallasey. The use of acoustic glass throughout also means students can also expect some peace and quiet. 46 APR 2014 Glazerite Director Jason Thompson says structural timber buildings are growing in popularity and the combination with PVC-U windows is a common choice: “It shows very clearly that even when architects choose natural materials for the structure, the benefits of PVC-U still make it first choice. The frames were made at Glazerite’s North West facility at Bolton. Glazerite, the UK’s largest VEKA trade fabricator and a prominent Network VEKA member, also has its main factory & HQ in Northamptonshire as well as a distribution hub at Avonmouth serving the South West.
