DOORS&WINDOWS MI Products ‘upbeat’ for rest of 2014 Recent positive economic data and rising orders have led hardware specialist MI Products to issue an upbeat business forecast for the rest of 2014. The Coventry-based firm is optimistic for the year ahead following increased demand across its product portfolio, including its Low Threshold systems for residential and sliding patio doors whose ergonomic designs satisfy the diverse needs of installers, fabricators and end-users alike. Low thresholds are increasingly specified for residential and commercial applications, providing a major benefit for those needing easy access to dwellings or public buildings. With performance to match, they can deliver the practical and aesthetic benefits preferred by so many homeowners and specifiers. “Activity levels are definitely higher and there’s a lot of interest from the industry, particularly for our low patio thresholds,” commented Ian Searle, MI Products’ Director. He added: “Feedback has been very encouraging on the low patio thresholds with customers recognising the new market opportunities that these products create for their businesses. The overall outlook is promising.” ‘A lot of interest from the industry’ Tel: 02476 305 943, email [email protected] or visit: www.miproducts.co.uk. SOLIDOR PARTNER UP WITH JET Composite door pioneers, Solidor, have partnered with JET Business to help get unemployed people in North Staffordshire trained and back to work. In the last six months the company has taken 10 people on board full time, and organised placements, through the innovative scheme. ‘Boost job chances’ JET (Jobs, Employment and Training) is run by North Staffordshire Regeneration Partnership, which works to regenerate the local economy by finding suitable employment for people who are out of work and claiming benefits. JET has also adopted the SPEAR (Supporting People Back Into Employment with the Army Reserve) campaign. The SPEAR course is designed to increase skills, confidence and boost job chances for the unemployed of North Staffordshire. While they are encouraged to join the army reserve, it is not compulsory. Weeks one and two took them to Army Reserve units to learn work place skills, such as team building and health and safety, in a military environment, followed by a two-week work placement at Solidor. www.solidor.co.uk Picture l-r: Craig Taylor and Shaun Tabbinor, the Army Reservist now working for Solidor. STRENGTH AS STANDARD WITH DISTINCTION DOORS Distinction Doors is known as the home of the composite door slab and for Drew Wright, the company’s MD, it’s the quality that has been key in the company turning over more than £30 million in 2013. “The quality of our door is a huge selling point for our customers,” he says. A simple test demonstrates its strength: a standard PVC-U infill panelled door can be kicked out 38 APR 2014 with a single, well-aimed kick. Try the same test with a Distinction Doors composite door and the same thing cannot be achieved. In fact, even with the aid of a police battering ram, the door cannot be forced within a reasonable timeframe, as viewers of www. youtube.com/distinctiondoorsltd can see. That’s because the door is made of impact-resistant GRP with a rigid polymer sub-frame and a high density polyurethane foam core and is proven to PAS24 UK industry standard. The door’s GRP skin is bonded to the rigid composite polymer sub-frame, offering total waterproofing, while its 100% CFC free high density polyurethane foam core provides unrivalled energy and sound insulating benefits.
