Harmful
bacteria
- not a
chance!
»»Despite the best efforts in
hand hygiene, harmful bacteria - such as
MRSA, E.coli, Campylobacter and Listeria
and even viruses like the common cold and
influenza — are often prevalent on surfaces
that are touched by a large number of people.
Window restrictors, especially those found
in commercial properties such as schools,
hospitals and hotels are often handled by
many adults and children and can therefore
facilitate the spread of harmful infections.
Aware of this problem, leading hardware
supplier UAP Ltd decided to team up with
world-renowned additive manufacturer
Addmaster and offer a solution. As a result
of the partnership, UAP’s white and brown
lockable window restrictors are now available
with Biomaster Antibacterial Technology, a
high-performance antibacterial additive that
offers highly-effective protection from the
threat of cross-contamination.
Biomaster AT300 suppresses the growth
of algae, mold, mildew, fungi and
bacteria which cause unpleasant odours,
discoloration, staining, deterioration or
corrosion only. Manufactured products
incorporating Biomaster AT300 may not
make any public health claims relating to
antimicrobial activity without first obtaining
an EPA registration for the manufactured
product which permits such claims.
David Jennings, managing director of
UAP, comments: “It came to my attention
that there was an issue regarding the
spread of bacteria via window restrictors,
and after a discussion with the UAP R&D
team, we decided to amend our product and
offer a solution. We researched the market
and it became clear that Biomaster offered
superb antibacterial performance, so we set
about incorporating the additive within our
manufacturing process. The product has
already been adopted by a number of existing
customers and we’re now in the process of
rolling it out to the wider market.”

The UAP fixed window restrictor has
a 200mm long cable, which limits the
opening of the window to under 100mm.
Not only does this prevent children from
squeezing through the gap, but it also allows
enough air to circulate around a room.
But the standout feature on the UAP fixed
window restrictor is the strength of the
cable. It can withstand forces over 100kg,
which is twice the industry standard, and
more than enough to take the weight of any
child.
“The Biomaster Antibacterial Technology
enhances an already market-leading product,
opening up new markets and giving our clients
the opportunity to sell for better margins.”
David concluded.
