glasstecpreview glasstec 2014:The entire world of glass After two years, the international glass industry will once again descend on Düsseldorf this month for glasstec 2014, from 21 to 24 October, to experience the industry’s pre-eminent event. »»The leading international trade fair with some 1,150 expected exhibitors, glasstec comprehensively covers the uniquely diverse glass supply chain. The offerings of the previous event in 2012 attracted more than 42,000 visitors representing the sectors mechanical engineering; glass manufacturing, processing and finishing; crafts; architecture and construction; windows and façades; and solar. No other glass-sector trade fair in the world can match the international share of trade visitors, 59% of whom travelled to Germany from abroad to attend. The future of glass in coming years: glass technology live The special show “glass technology live” (gtl) in Hall 11, organised by Prof. Stefan Behling and his team at the Institute for Building Construction at the University of Stuttgart, is one of glasstec’s marquee events and always draws huge crowds. Products about to emerge in coming years are on display here. For example, one of the eye-catchers from the 2012 “Façade and Construction” theme was a window integrated into glazing without any visible framing. In 2014, the highlighted themes at this special show, which covers about 2,500 square metres, will fall under the rubric “Intelligent Glass” and include the areas Intelligent Building Envelopes, Façade + Energy (Solar), Innovations in Glass, and Glass Design. Consequently, some of the innovative exhibits will represent segments such as light directing, translucent glazing, composite elements in façades, glass and OLEDs as well as light and thin glass for architecture and displays. Solar meets Glass – the intersection of two sectors The fourth “Solar meets Glass – Industry Summit for Markets, Costs and Technology” conference at the Congress Center East will be on the glasstec agenda for 20 and 21 October. For the glass industry, it’s a chance to explore and assess new sales opportunities, while the solar industry can use the glass sector’s expertise in tough costbased competition. In addition to providing a market and technology overview, the conference programme will emphasise new business models for success in the glass and solar industry as well as solar applications in the building shell.
